Tweaks and More Tweaks

Based on my Oregon trip and knowledge I will definitely be living there, I’m making a few more tweaks to the van.

Was already going to add a trailer hitch so I can add more storage and a place for my e-scooter. I’m going to get a better e-bike though as the Vivi is just too heavy and rusted like mad out there.

Going back to the plan of adding the roof rails so I can add an awning, as the regular rain there made me wish I had it. It also may help with the infinite supply of dead tree needles that get everywhere.

Also going to add some side pointing exterior flood lights to the rails so I can have better lighting outside as needed.

Already added a permanent shore power hookup on the outside which by default goes to the Victron AC charger, and just have to manually move one plug as needed from the inverter to be 100% powered externally. I thought about adding an automatic transfer switch but meh. It would never be a seamless transfer unless I use the super expensive Victron charger+inverter, so it’s not a big deal to just move the one plug. All the actual appliances are fine just going through the inverter all the time, even on shore power, the only actual drain beyond what the AC charger provides is the better electric heater, which I can just plug into the shore power strip directly.

Will be adding a water inlet as well so it officially meets the definition of an RV, and qualifies as a home in Oregon. I just need to add a “T” and two valves to the existing plumbing which will let me either let me fill the tank, or use the external water direct to the faucet.

Although I had decent internet through my Solimo access point combined with the WeBoost, I could only use one device at a time, and was annoyed how limited the “unlimited” plan is in that it becomes totally unusable when you hit the 100GB limit (I stream a lot of YouTube and Prime Video movies). I bought an industrial looking 5G router from TravlFI (https://travlfi.com) which is a more legit company and the “unlimited” plan is 800GB at full speed.

Need to build a removable insert for the passenger seat to give Sir Didymus a perch up front.

Also going to re-do the bed somehow so it pulls out easier. I also may build permanent drawers instead of using the canvas bins as they can be hard to remove when I am on the bed.

Might build a permanent shelf up front where I have the canvas organizer just so it all looks nicer.

The electrical system is completely solid at this point, but me being me I’m going to go to 100% Victron hardware as it’s so much better than the Renogy.
