Oregon and Washington

The latest trip, which I did over my Birthday in March. Mainly Fort Stevens again, but I also visited the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, and went up to Seattle to see the Connections Museum. The last pic is actually a Utah sunrise on the way home.

Tweaks and More Tweaks

Based on my Oregon trip and knowledge I will definitely be living there, I’m making a few more tweaks to the van. Was already going to add a trailer hitch so I can add more storage and a place for my e-scooter. I’m going to get a better e-bike though as the Vivi is just too heavy and rusted like mad out there. Going back to the plan of adding the roof rails so I can add an awning, as the regular rain there made me wish I had it. It also may help with the infinite supply of dead…

Astoria, OR

Some pics of my trip to the Astoria,OR area for the holidays. These are mainly from Fort Stevens State Park in Hammond, OR. Going to gradually spend more and more time there until it officially becomes my home.

Van Update 12/16/23

Basically done with everything I can think of. Just need to swap out the SLA battery for the second LiFePo4 battery if it gets here tomorrow, then I will be off to Oregon for a couple weeks.

Electrical Done…

Think I’m finally happy with the electrical system, aka my favorite part…. All the chargers are now Victron. I also now have two 100ah LiFePo4 batteries in parallel for 200ah total, have the big fuses all in one place, and made it easy to just disconnect all the off grid charging stuff when I have shore power available. The amount of stuff packed in there actually equates to a fairly efficient system (1/4 of it is my toolbox though). I have two solar charge controllers as I have two different size panels (two 100 watt panels and one 50 watt…

Update 12/2/2023

I’ve given up on the Renogy solar controllers as both the ones I tried have problems. It’s also proven to be a pretty crappy product ecosystem in general and unreliable monitoring. I’ll stick with the DC-DC charger and inverter for now as they both seem to be working fine. I went ahead the replaced the solar charge controller with a Victron MPPT 20 amp controller and so far it’s awesome. Although I have all the panels on this one currently, I’m going to split the single 50 watt panel onto a second controller as it will actually be more efficient.…
